The 2010-2011 Lectures ~
Where do you go to hear more about opera and to
better enjoy the MET Simulcasts?.... why, “the place to
go” is The Elmwood Village and Allentown in Buffalo, New
York! Then tool- on- down to the Regal Theater on
Elmwood Ave. or on Transit Rd for the Metropolitan
Opera’s Simulcasts, after hearing OperaBuffs’ lectures
as your very own “Cliff Notes.”
These FREE lectures take place in the Peter
and Elizabeth Tower Auditorium of the recently opened
Burchfield Penney Art Center, situated in Museum Row at
1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo. The Burchfield Penney Art
Center is a museum dedicated to the art and vision of
Charles E. Burchfield and distinguished artists and the
arts of Buffalo, Niagara and Western New York. Through
the affiliation with Buffalo State College, the center
encourages learning and celebrate our richly creative
and diverse WNY community.
In addition, a very special Opera/Informance with
SUNY Fredonia’s Hillman Opera performers in “The Tales
of Hoffman”, with Prof. Julie Newell narrating, is
scheduled for 10:30am - Noon on October 30th in the
sanctuary of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724
Delaware Ave., Buffalo.
OperaBuffs of WNY 2010-2011 INSIDE OPERA SCHEDULE ~
* Curtain Up’s Opera Lecture Kick-off 10:30a.m.-Noon,
Saturday September 11th: “The Role of The Opera Chorus
in Das Rheingold and Wagner Operas” with Dr. Doreen Rao,
Director, Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus (MET Simulcast on
October 9.) We have been asked “What opera chorus in Das
Reingold?” That’s what we will hear about when Dr. Rao
leads us in an understanding of Wagner’s use of the
opera Chorus in his many operas.
October 2nd: “Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov and Politics in
Opera”, featuring Elaine Knecht with two local
politicians. (MET Simulcast on October 23)

WHAT: "OPERA INFORMANCE: The SUNY Fredonia Hillman Opera

OK! An opera could exist without a chorus BUT could
an opera exist without an orchestra (no matter what the
size of the orchestra?)
*NOTE: September 11th is the 2nd Saturday, January
15 is the 3rd Saturday and the October 30th Lecture/Informance
is “stand alone” event. All other lectures take place on
the 1st Saturday of the month, October through May.
